Every year our church does an alternative to Trick or treating It's an event where families come to the church to play games and get candy. They also hear the gospel through a puppet show. It was our first time attending as Abigail was serving for her Route 56 ministry.
My Mom turned 65 on Saturday and my Dad and I arranged for a small surprise party. And it worked. She was surprised. We were only 13 in total but we really enjoyed ourselves.
Abigail's home economics class is sewing. She has been wanting to do this for some time now. I am not a sewer, so I called upon my mom. All my clothes were sewed by her when I was a kid. My mom came over and took Abigail shopping to find some fabric. Originally Abi wanted to make curtains for her room but that proved to be too expensive. So we are starting with a cheaper project. Throw pillows for her bed and room. Here is the fabric of choice. Just look at that smile!
I decided to throw in some home economics classes for the kids. Josh is cooking with me and today was our first class. I allowed him to choose a recipe he wanted. He, of course, chose dessert. Home made chocolate chip cookies. These cookies were like none other we had baked before. They called for toasted rolled oats.
It has been several years since I had to go to back to school night let alone a middle school. While it was great to "meet" all the teachers, it was waaay to long for this homeschool momma. I like it much better sitting a home with a nice warm cup of tea and my jammies.
I did get the opportunity to see some friends of old and get reconnected. It was equally nice meeting some new parents too.
There are a lot of advantages to a child going out of the home. But I do miss him. There is an element to his life that I am not aware of. But thanks to last night I do feel slightly closer and connected. What really struck me was the enthusiasm and excitement the teachers exhibited. So wonderful and reassuring to know that my child is left in the hands of those that actually do care about his character as well as his gaining knowledge. Truly a blessing.
Stephen's team was unable to practice this week due to a bunch of different reasons. And when they did try only 6 showed up. So we are a little worried about the game. Never mind the other team had yet to score, you still worry about the performance with lack of practice. Well they did let the other team score but they scored more. The league has a bizarre rule that once you score 24 more points than opponent you can only run the ball up the middle. WHAT!?!? If you have a mercy rule, just call the game. Crazy. It was a fun game to watch. Stephen did score a touchdown, on defense. The ball was fumbled and it juggled right into his hands at about our 45 yard line and he ran it all the way back.
Abigail was not at the game. She had an outdoor movie night with the route 56 group. Needless to say she was extremely excited to 1) not be at the game, and 2) to be doing something really fun. They set up a projector and they all gathered around outside and watched a movie. Then they had smores.
