As the new year is under way I have seen and heard many people either making resolutions or using a word to label the year. I have done both. Can't really say that one or the other is better. I just recall that last year I chose a word. The word was release. I have to say that I was fairly successful with the word.
So as this year gets underway, I am thinking more of a phrase - "Go small or go home." Yes, I know the phrase is supposed to be "go big or go home". I rather like the idea of going small. What I mean by this is showing up completely and totally in the every day small details of our lives. We often take those times for granted. We allow ourselves to become frustrated or grumpy because of the "dailies" we need to do. I want this year to be about being in the here and now. So often we can fixate on what needs to be done several days from now, or dare I say several weeks to months from now. How about focusing on the now and giving it our all. Every morsel of our bodies present to make the best and most of the moment we are in. Be it washing clothes, grocery shopping, cleaning house, tending a sick one, hugging a small child. You get the idea. Be present!! Be focused!! Be available!! in the small so we can walk rightly in the big. For it is in how we handle the every day part of our Lives that will determine how we respond to how we handle the extraordinary when that comes. And make no mistake the extraordinary will come.
So for me this year, I am going small.
